An active vacation can both be relaxing hiking or cycling in nature, but also a holiday full of sports. Try for instance to surf on the wild waves or ride on a mountain bike along a challenging route.
Whether you are an experienced surfer or you are trying to surf for the first time, you find the best possibilities to explore the waves and challenge your own balance on board here by the North Sea. At the Northwest coast near the city Klitmøller, Cold Hawaii is located which is an amazing hotspot for surfing, SUP and other water activities. Cold Hawaii in Thy is Europe's answer to the somewhat warmer Hawaii and extends from Hanstholm in the north to Agger in the south and you can find no less than 31 excellent surfspots. Moreover, Cold Hawaii Surf Camp offers surfcamps where you will have a fantastic surf experience together with your family, friends or simply yourself. On the western coastline at Thyborøn, the Thyborøn Surfcenter is offering amongst others surf courses. Due to the Thyborøn channel there are almost always shallow waves for beginners as well.
Also further north you will find ideal conditions for a tour on the surfboard. In Løkken the conditions are perfect for children and beginners but even here, beginners must be accompanied by an instructor in the water. North Shore Surf offers surfing courses, sauna and wilderness bath and invites you to wonderful hours by the sea.

If you want to explore the environment with your mountain bike, you will find some of Denmark's best tracks at the Northwest coast. Here you can enjoy your vacation on two wheels while exploring many different tracks in beautiful nature.
Denmark's best marked mountain bike distance of 21 km begins at Slettestrand. Nearby, Kollerup plantation is located where you can find another 7 km long marked route. Slettestrand offers ideal conditions for a weekend or a vacation in the spirit of mountain biking with technique courses, guided tours and Aftertrail. There are also tours especially for children. You can also challenge yourself with a 10 km route at Gateway Blokhus close to Blokhus. The track is made of organic material and rotates between topsoil, beach sand, fill sand and roots.
At Tornby dune plantation you find a route which is even challenging for the most experienced mountain bikers. The track is singletrack and a fun route with small turns and a view to the Skagerak. There are only few altitude meters but the route is constantly going up and down and several places on the track are driven in sand. If you want to try a route with a lot of challenges with drops, sand pits, rapid climbs and stairs, then Tornby dune plantation is worth a visit. Not far away is Bagterp dune plantation on the outskirts of Hjørring where the mountain bike track has many turns and when speeding up, it will be a challenge for everyone.
The longest mountain bike track in Denmark is located in Klosterheden and here you have great possibilities for speed. The route consists of winding stretches between trees, off-road biking on hilly ground and biking on gravel roads.

On a hike you can slow down everyday life and get close to nature. In Denmark's largest wilderness national park Thy you can go on a hike in the large unspoiled nature area of a total of 244 km². The national park extends along the west coast from Agger Tange to Hanstholm and you can hike through the vast wilderness and aromatic pine trees and if you need to cool off, the North Sea attracts with its beautiful and fresh water.
Explore some of the major national routes like Vestkystruten and Nordsøstien or follow Hærvejen which is a recreational route for you if you want to hike in historical tracks and at the same time experience some of the best of Jutland's nature. The route has a total of 500 km, starts in Padborg in Southern Jutland and ends in Hirtshals.
At Svinklovene and Fosdalen you can experience magnificent nature as they are both designated as one of the 15 most beautiful nature places in Denmark. Unique views and large dune landscapes impress from the top of Denmark's longest inland slope Lien which runs through the area. The hiking route of 11 km in Fosdalen is furthermore classified as a Premium Route at the German Hiking Institution. The same applies to the 15 km hiking route in Husby dune plantation which is a part of Geopark West Jutland. Here you have great possibilities to experience amazing nature and feel small in the unique and wide landscape. Enjoy the great North Sea, parabolic dunes and forest. Feel the wind in your hair and get red cheeks. The nature park Nissum Fjord close to Thorsminde offers excellent route possibilities as well. Experience the 70 km long fjord route - Around Nissum Fjord - where you come along all of the small fjord harbors.
