Taste experiences on the North-West Coast
Out here in the west, you can feel how the salt from the North Sea makes the air and life taste better. Life by the coast and the untamed nature make wild ideas grow, turning them into great experiences in both events and food.
Eat your way through the North West Coast
The Northwest Coast tastes of the sea and heathland, of local produce and people who care about what they serve. Here you can start the day with freshly baked bread and good coffee, have lunch with a view of the dunes, and end the evening with freshly caught fish, seasonal vegetables – or a simple burger that hits the spot. The food scene is diverse: from cosy inns and harbour cafés to modern kitchens, small ice cream parlours and local producers where you can taste your way closer to the area.
We have divided the eateries into categories, and here you will find a map showing the many options and their locations. Click around and find just the right place for your trip – whether you're looking for a quick bite, something child-friendly, a special evening out or a local taste experience along the way.
You can read more about each restaurant and get information about opening hours, menus, table reservations, etc.
Bon appétit!

What kind of taste experience are you looking for?
Are you into fresh fish and seafood, local produce and seasonal flavours, or are you more tempted by a good cup of coffee and something sweet? Perhaps you're looking for a quick, informal meal, or a dinner where you can be pampered a little extra.
From wild nature to unique culinary experiences
Living in the midst of wild nature and close to the sea provides excellent opportunities for guests to combine exciting experiences with unique culinary experiences. For example, visit Thyborøn, Thorsminde, or Hanstholm Harbour, attend a fish auction, and purchase fresh fish to take home. You can do the same at Hirtshals Harbour, where the North Sea Oceanarium even organises guided tours where you can learn more about both the auctions and the life of the fish. Other opportunities to combine experiences with good food can be found in Thyborøn, where the Jutland Aquarium organises oyster safaris, seal safaris and seafood safaris.

From sea to table
At the end of Thorupstrandvej, right down on the beach, Thorupstrand Fiskehus is located in the heart of coastal life, familiar to many from the TV series ‘Gutterne på kutterne’ (The Boys on the Cutters). Here, the sea and local fishing set the scene, and you can both feel and taste it.
At the fish house, you can eat on the premises, both indoors and outdoors, or take your food home with you. At the counter, you will find fresh fish and delicious specialities such as homemade fish cakes, pan-fried plaice fillets, sourdough bread and homemade remoulade.
Only sustainably caught fish is on the menu and at the counter. This means that the fish is caught using equipment that takes into account the seabed, breeding grounds and fish stocks. This contributes to a more robust ecosystem and provides a fantastic fresh product with a lower carbon footprint.
When you shop at Thorupstrand Fiskehus, you are also supporting coastal fishing. You are helping to secure local jobs and preserve a cultural history that is still alive right here on the North Sea coast.
