Europes surf paradise Cold Hawaii
Today, the area has practically developed into a small surfers’ colony, and the surfers now living in Klitmøller have succeeded in creating an exciting environment that adds new life to the town and area. Every year, Klitmøller sees a number of surf competitions. Since 2010, the village has hosted the international surfing championship Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup with 32 of the best surfers in the world competing for the cup. During the years, the interest in this competition has increased in Denmark and abroad. Since 2013, HRH Crown Prince Frederik has been the patron of the PWA World Cup in Cold Hawaii.
The two reefs outside the coast to the south of the point of Ørhage contribute to making Klitmøller particularly well-suited for different disciplines within the sport of surfing. The formation of huge waves facilitates wave-, wind-, kite- and stand up paddle surfing. This is not solely for professionals, as a matter of fact, you can learn the noble art of surfing if you visit the Cold Hawaii Surf Camp or Surf Pro Cold Hawaii.

Cold Hawaii Games
Every year in late summer, Cold Hawaii in Thy provides the setting for the Cold Hawaii Games – a regular festival celebrating surfing, sport and outdoor activities. For several weeks, from mid-September to early October, the coast from Agger to Hanstholm is transformed into a huge playground for professional athletes and curious beginners.
The programme offers something for everyone: international competitions such as the Red Bull King of the Air Qualifier, where the world’s best kitesurfers gather in Vorupør, and the PWA Youth Wave & Slalom World Cup, where young windsurfers showcase their talent. But the Cold Hawaii Games are much more than just top-level sport. Here you can also try your hand at surfing for the first time, take part in outdoor yoga, go mountain biking in Thy National Park, run the Cold Hawaii Ultra Trail or experience action-packed challenges in Hanstholm.
The events are open to all and participation is free, and the atmosphere is shaped by the local surfing scene, which has made Cold Hawaii an international meeting place since the very beginning.
