STANDARD TIME - Løkken 2026
Become part of Standard Time in Løkken – a unique 24-hour performance artwork where time is kept alive solely by people. Minute by minute, the hours of the day are physically built on Løkken Beach, and visitors are invited to move from spectators to co-creators. As a very special occasion, Standard Time will visit the Løkken Pier Festival 2026 for the first – and currently only time.

Standard Time at Løkken Pier Festival 2026: As a special highlight of the Løkken Pier Festival 2026, you can experience – and participate in – Standard Time, a unique 24-hour performance artwork on Løkken Beach.
In Standard Time, the 24 hours of a day are physically constructed minute by minute using large numbers and human labour. No engines. No automation. Only people. The artwork evolves continuously over a full 24-hour period as time is created and documented in front of the audience.
What makes Standard Time truly special is that the artwork cannot exist without the community. Residents, holidaymakers, businesses, associations, clubs, and volunteers are all invited to participate and become part of the artwork itself.
If the participants stop, time stops.
Standard Time is both an art installation, a performance, and a shared experience that explores themes of time, collaboration, responsibility, and human presence. At the same time, it offers a rare opportunity to become a co-creator of an internationally acclaimed artwork – this time with the North Sea and Løkken Beach as its backdrop.
Become Part of the Artwork
Everyone can participate – individually, with family and friends, or as part of a business, association, club, or group of friends.
Children aged 12 and above are welcome to participate when accompanied by an adult.
No special skills or experience are required. The most important thing is a desire to take part in a unique experience where art, community, and collaboration come together on the beach in Løkken.
The Timekeepers’ Camp – The Heart of Standard Time
Keeping time alive for 24 hours requires a strong community.
For that reason, the Timekeepers’ Camp will be established as a welcoming, round-the-clock gathering place alongside Standard Time on Løkken Beach. Here, participants can meet, eat, relax, and recharge between their shifts at the artwork.
The camp has been made possible thanks to support from Sparekassen Danmark Fonden Vendsyssel and will serve as the natural meeting point for the many timekeepers who work together to keep time moving throughout the entire 24-hour period.
There will be comfortable lounge areas, shared facilities, and refreshments available for all participants. The goal is not only to create an artwork, but also to create a 24-hour community where people of different ages, backgrounds, and interests come together. Because when time must be kept alive, it is the community that keeps the artwork alive.
