The Darkness: Folklore and Frights at Hjerl Hede
Follow the lantern bearer into the evening darkness and step into the shadowy world of folklore at Hjerl Hede during the autumn holidays, where Darkness reigns and the underground creatures come to life.
As darkness falls, Hjerl Hede Open-Air Museum transforms into a world of folklore, mysterious creatures and fear. Follow the lantern guide through the old village, where changelings, elven maidens and giants lurk in the shadows – while an even more dangerous figure awaits in the darkness: the Devil.
During the approximately one-hour walk, you will make your way between historic buildings and along narrow paths. Groups of around 20 people set off at 15-minute intervals, each accompanied by their own lantern guide.
The experience combines Danish folklore, historical stories and atmospheric light and sound effects, offering an intense insight into the fear and superstition that shaped people's understanding of the world in times gone by.

- Tickets will go on sale online in September 2026.
- Annual passes and complimentary tickets are not valid for this event.
- Not recommended for children under 10.
- The tour is conducted in Danish only.
- Torches, smartphones and other artificial light sources are not permitted.
- Dogs are not allowed.
- The route is not suitable for wheelchairs, mobility walkers, wagons or people with walking difficulties.
- Light and sound effects are used during the walk.
