At Hjerl Hede Open-Air Museum, you can explore historic houses, farms, kitchen gardens and workshops and discover how people lived in Denmark several hundred years ago.

The museum is located near Vinderup, between Holstebro and Skive, and is a great experience for families, children and adults spending their holiday in West Jutland.

From 10 August to 11 October 2026, you can explore the historic buildings and surroundings and step into the past as you walk through living rooms, kitchens and workshops.

Discover what everyday life was like in rural Denmark in times gone by. During this period, the museum is closed on Mondays. On Mondays, you can enjoy walks through the museum grounds during daylight hours.

Experiences for the whole family

At Hjerl Hede's historic activity area, children and adults can experience history through play. Try riding a penny-farthing, walk on stilts, play with the miniature watermill or explore the large historic village shop.

You can also enjoy a meal at Restaurant Skyttegaarden on the museum's opening days or combine your museum visit with a walk in the surrounding nature.

Less than two kilometres from Hjerl Hede Open-Air Museum you will find Flyndersø, Denmark's largest heathland lake, where you can enjoy the nature and the beautiful views.
