Whitsun at the North Sea Oceanarium
Wonderful days filled with cosy and educational experiences for the whole family.
It’s spring! And love is blossoming in the aquariums.
Several species of fish begin their breeding season in spring, so over the Whitsun holidays we’ll be taking a closer look at eggs and fry, amongst other things.
We’re transforming our Backstage area into a little fish nursery and filling the small aquariums with lots of fascinating fry and eggs. There will be everything from small- and large-spotted red sharks to cute little lumpfish.
You can also learn to tell the difference between shark and ray eggs, as well as exactly which species has laid which eggs.
Nature Bingo – a fun hunt through the aquariums
Go on a discovery hunt with Nature Bingo and see which member of the family is the first to find all the animals on the bingo card.
Perhaps you’ll spot a lumpfish, a tiny goby or a baby shark?
Along the way, you’ll learn fun facts about the animals – for example, that a lumpfish can carry up to 200,000 eggs.
Nature Bingo turns your visit into a game where curiosity and discovery take centre stage – and where the whole family can join in. Who will get bingo first?
Creative activities at Værftet
We’re opening the doors to the creative workshop ‘Værftet’, where every day you can make everything from jewellery to glow-in-the-dark Easter eggs.
There will be delicious refreshments in the form of hot chocolate and doughnuts, which you can enjoy whilst letting your creativity run free.
Feeding times
The diver jumps into the Oceanarium and feeds sharks, rays and thousands of schooling fish at 12.00 every day.
At 10.30 and 14.00, you can watch our animal keepers train and feed both grey seals and harbour seals in the large outdoor Sealarium.
Everything from crabs to starfish and flatfish is fed in the touch pool at 13.30.
