For children: Become a school pupil from 1826
Let children experience what school life was like in a traditional village school in the old days.

Have you ever wondered what school was like 200 years ago? All summer long, children and grandchildren can try this experience at Hjerl Hede.
From June 27 to August 9, 2026, children can step into the role of a pupil in the old village school from Hinge, dating back to 1826. This experience is part of the museum’s traditional summer living history program, where the past is brought to life through activities and storytelling.
Here, children experience a historic school day: sitting at old school desks, taking part in lessons, and playing traditional games from the past.
How do I become a pupil?
- Lessons take place several times a day.
- Duration: approx. 1 hour per lesson.
- Teaching is in Danish.
- No advance booking is possible, and places are limited per day.

The school at Hjerl Hede originally comes from Hinge near Kjellerup in Central Jutland.
