The Old Post Office to Tvis Kloster

The route begins on Østergade by museum The Old Post Office. Cross Enghavevej, and head down Viborgvej. Turn right onto Hulvejen. Left of Hulvejen is Søndre Kirkegaard (Southern Churchyard).

Continue via Lyngbakken and Gennem Lunden, and cross Ringvejen to Søvej, where you can see both TV-MIDT/VEST and Frithioff Johansen’s sculpture Chaos Temple. Continue through Folkeparken (The People’s Park) which was designed and built between 1940 and 1942. In the centre of the park there is a memorial marking the 100th anniversary of the end of adscription.

From Folkeparken the route follows Klintevej past Sletten, a residential area, to Tvis Møllevej and Tvis Mølle (Tvis Mill). Right next to it are the remains of Cistercian monastery Tvis Kloster, founded in 1163.

The route now follows Vandkraftsøen (Power Station Lake) to Uhre Sø (Uhre Lake). Vandkraftsøen was created by damming Storå (Storå River). You can still see the river’s natural course on the bottom of the lake along with the remains of Stone Age settlements.

From Uhre Sø the route goes via Mejdal Søvej to Mejdal Camping. Continue over Ringvejen to Stryget, built to allow salmon and trout free passage past the dam. Continue past Storåen allotments on Steen Blichers Vej, past Ålund via Sveavej and Ørredstien across Sønderbrogade towards Færch Torv (Færch Square) Lille Østergade and Østergade.
